Frederickson Facility Our newest bulk facility is at Frederickson, WA. which is 13 miles southeast of Tacoma. This is a rail served facility where intermodal rail cars full of empty steamship line containers are received directly from the rail yard of Tacoma Rail. They are placed on chassis, loaded with bulk products from hopper cars and reloaded to the intermodal rail cars. Tacoma Rail then moves the intermodal rail cars directly into the steamship line terminals at the Port of Tacoma thus eliminating truck traffic on the highways, through the gates and in the terminal yards.
The facility has 5300 feet of track, 4 turnouts, and 8 acres of useable property. There is an 80 foot digital truck scale. The rail hopper cars are gravity discharged into a 32 foot pit where an auger/conveyor/auger system delivers the product to an empty container positioned on the digital, certified scale. Each discharge track will accommodate 10 hopper cars and the intermodal tracks will handle six five-well cars.
